Patient Procedures at Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center
At our St. Joseph, MI office, we provide a range of specialized procedures to accurately diagnose and manage allergies, asthma, and related conditions. Here’s an overview of the services we offer:
Allergy Skin Testing
Skin testing is the most reliable method to diagnose allergies. Tiny pricks containing trace amounts of allergens (pollen, dust mites, animal dander, etc.) are applied to the skin. Results are available within 15 minutes and are highly accurate.
- Who Can Be Tested?
Even infants can benefit from skin testing, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Retesting may be necessary as children grow to monitor immune system changes. - Multi-Skin Tests for Children
Allows multiple allergen tests simultaneously using a multi-prong device. - Food Skin Tests
Tests for reactions to common food allergens like milk, peanuts, and shellfish.
Chemical Patch Testing
This method diagnoses skin reactions to allergens like nickel, fragrances, and rubber. Allergens are taped to the skin for 48 hours, with results checked after 72 hours.
Lung Function Testing
Using a spirometer, we measure lung capacity and airflow to:
- Diagnose conditions like asthma and bronchitis.
- Assess the effectiveness of asthma treatments.
- Monitor progress in disease treatment.
Venom Testing
Tests for allergies to insect venom (bees, wasps, fire ants, etc.) through a combination of skin and intradermal tests. Venom vaccines approved by the FDA provide highly effective treatment.
Oral Challenges
Performed under medical supervision, oral challenges test for allergic reactions to specific foods or medications.
Drug Allergy Testing
This individualized test requires a consultation to determine the best approach for evaluating drug allergies.
Our experienced allergists ensure every procedure is safe and tailored to your needs. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
